Python covers an unusually wide spread of jobs, and pretending one engineer does all of them well is how these projects go wrong. A Django developer who has run migrations against a ten-year-old schema is not the same person who tunes a Spark job. Part of our job is telling you which one your brief actually describes.

Application development: Django and DRF for systems with real domain rules and an admin people use every day, FastAPI for services that need async throughput and a typed contract. When it is not. If the goal is a retrieval chatbot or an agent, hire an AI engineer instead, because the Python is the easy part of that job. If the work is really about workflow tools like n8n or Make, the automation engineer costs less and ships sooner.

Django or FastAPI for a new project?
Django when there is real domain complexity, an admin interface and a team that will grow. Batteries included saves months of work nobody wants to do twice. FastAPI when it is a service, throughput matters and the front end is separate. The engineer makes the call in week one and writes down the reasoning.
Can they take over a Python 2 or legacy Django codebase?
Yes, and we have done several. Tests around the parts that earn money first, then upgrade in deployable steps. Expect months rather than weeks, and a written plan before a single line changes. Anyone quoting you three weeks for this has not looked at the code.
Do your Python developers do machine learning?
Some do. But if the core of the project is retrieval-augmented generation, agents or model evaluation, hire the AI and LLM engineer instead. You get somebody whose day job that is, at a rate that reflects it, and a faster answer to whether it will work at all.
How do you handle data privacy on pipeline work?
