Odoo implementation and development

One database for sales, stock, purchasing and accounts, if the process is designed first.

We implement and extend Odoo: sales, inventory, purchasing, manufacturing and accounting on one database, custom Python modules for the parts your business genuinely does differently, and connections to your website or store so orders and stock never disagree. Process mapping comes before configuration, because that is where these projects are won or lost.

What Odoo is, and what makes an implementation succeed

Odoo is an open-source business suite: CRM, sales, purchasing, inventory, manufacturing, accounting, projects, HR and ecommerce, all on one PostgreSQL database. There is a free Community edition and a paid Enterprise edition, and either can be hosted by Odoo or by you. For an inventory- or manufacturing-led business the value is one fact: a sales order, a stock move and a journal entry are the same transaction viewed from three desks.

Odoo projects almost never fail on technology. They fail on process. The suite holds firm opinions about how a business should run, and the price of your implementation is decided by how far your process sits from those defaults. Every deviation becomes a customisation. Every customisation is code somebody maintains. Enough of them and the annual version upgrade turns into a project with its own budget.

So phase one is process mapping, not configuration. What genuinely differs about how you operate, what is simply habit that survived a staff change, and where adopting Odoo's default is cheaper than encoding your current practice in Python. Then configuration. Then custom modules for whatever is left, written as inherited modules rather than forks, so next year's upgrade is still available to you.

The other thing that decides the outcome is data. Product masters, stock counts, customer records, open orders and opening balances all have to be cleaned before migration, and someone inside the business has to own that work. We can script it, reconcile it and show you the mismatches. We cannot decide which of your three product codes for the same item is the real one. Where the store is involved, plan the ecommerce side in the same phase.

What we build

What we do with Odoo

Implementation

Process mapping first, then configuration of sales, purchasing, inventory, manufacturing and accounting on one database.

Custom modules

Python modules that inherit and extend the standard models, so your particular rules do not block next year's version upgrade.

Website and store integration

Odoo connected to Shopify, WooCommerce or a custom storefront, with one system named as the owner of price and stock.

Explore

Data migration

Products, customers, suppliers, open orders and opening balances cleaned, mapped and reconciled to a report you sign off before go-live.

Version upgrades

Moving from an old release onto a supported one, including rewriting the customisations that were forked instead of inherited the first time.

Training and support

Role-based training, written procedures, and a retainer covering the third month, when the real questions start arriving.

Honest comparison

Odoo compared with the alternatives

Odoo vs Zoho

Odoo is stronger where the complexity is operational: inventory, manufacturing, accounting, and it can be self-hosted with the source in your hands. Zoho is stronger on CRM, support and marketing, and is fully hosted so there is no server to look after. Ask where your mess actually is, in operations or in customer records, and the answer follows.

Odoo vs SAP or Microsoft Dynamics

The enterprise suites bring deeper industry functionality, formal support and the compliance posture a large organisation needs, at licence and implementation costs an order of magnitude higher. Under a few hundred people, Odoo delivers most of the operational benefit for a fraction of the money, and the difference buys a lot of process improvement.

Odoo vs a set of separate applications

Separate specialist tools each work better on their own, and then you pay for the integration and live with reconciliation arguments forever. One database ends that, provided you accept Odoo's way of working. Customising heavily to avoid the trade-off leaves you with the costs of both approaches and the benefits of neither.

Questions

Odoo, answered

Community or Enterprise edition?

Community is free and covers the core operational applications well. Enterprise adds accounting depth, studio customisation, mobile apps and official support, and usually earns its licence once accounting runs inside Odoo. We price both against your requirements rather than defaulting to the one with a partner commission attached.

How long does an Odoo implementation take?

A focused implementation covering sales, purchasing and inventory is typically eight to sixteen weeks. Manufacturing or a full accounting migration extends that. The two variables are how much customisation you need and how clean your data is, and the data is nearly always the bigger risk to the date.

Can Odoo be customised to match how we already work?

It can, and this is the decision worth agonising over. Every customisation is code you own and a complication at upgrade time. We map the process first and separate genuine differentiators from habit, then build only for the former. Expect us to argue for the default more than once.

Can Odoo connect to our website or Shopify store?

Yes, through the RPC APIs or a middleware service. The real question is which system owns product, price and stock, and what happens when they disagree at 2 a.m. We settle that on paper before any synchronisation code is written.

What about Indian GST and e-invoicing?

Odoo's Indian localisation covers GST configuration, returns and e-invoicing, and we set it up with your accountant rather than around them. Compliance sign-off stays with the people whose names are on the filing.

How is Odoo work staffed and priced?

Per engagement rather than at a published hourly rate, because an implementation, a custom module and a support retainer price very differently. Send us the scope and you get a team and a rate in writing. Zoho and CRM engineers are available hourly if that suits better.

Considering Odoo, or stuck mid-implementation?

Tell us your process and where the current system breaks down. You get a phased plan and an estimate that accounts for the data clean-up.
