Image Converter
Convert images between WebP, JPEG, and PNG formats directly in your browser with transparency options and batch ZIP download.
Choose a format your destination accepts
Use JPG for photographs when the destination requires it, PNG when you need transparency, or WebP when it is supported. Check the converted image before replacing the original. Converting formats cannot restore detail already lost.
Example Walkthrough: Converting a Batch of Images
When preparing a collection of images for web publishing or archiving, converting them into a unified format simplifies distribution.
- Add Files to the Queue: Select up to 50 JPG, PNG, or WebP images to convert simultaneously.
- Choose Target Format: Select WebP for web delivery, JPEG for universal compatibility, or PNG for lossless transparency.
- Configure Background for JPEG: Because JPEG does not support transparency, choose a background color (such as white) to fill transparent regions.
- Download Individual Files or ZIP: Download converted images individually as they finish or click Download All as ZIP to get the entire batch in a single archive.
Format Compatibility, Transparency, and File Size
Converting between formats involves trade-offs. Converting a transparent PNG to JPEG requires flattening the alpha channel onto a solid background color. Conversely, converting a compressed JPEG into PNG will not improve quality and may result in a larger file, as PNG uses lossless compression designed for sharp line art rather than photographic gradients. WebP supports both lossy compression and alpha transparency, making it versatile for modern web use.
Common questions
Why is my converted PNG file larger than the original JPEG?
JPEG uses lossy compression that discards subtle color variations. PNG uses lossless compression. Re-encoding a JPEG into PNG cannot recover lost data and will often produce a larger file because PNG stores the uncompressed raster representation.
How does batch conversion work?
You can queue up to 50 files. The browser processes each file sequentially in memory. If an individual file fails due to corruption, the remaining files continue converting, and all successful outputs can be downloaded together as a standard ZIP archive.
Does the ZIP generator require external software?
No. The ZIP file is generated entirely within your browser using standard PK archive headers and CRC32 checksums, compatible with Windows, macOS, and Linux built-in extraction tools.
Are my converted files uploaded to a server?
Files selected from your device stay in this browser tab for processing; we do not upload them to our server. If you choose Google Drive import, Google sends the selected files directly to your browser after you grant access.
