Ecommerce SEO for stores that need traffic that buys

Category, product and technical SEO for Shopify, WooCommerce and Magento stores

Stores have search problems that brochure sites never meet. Filters spawning thousands of near-identical URLs, product pages with forty words on them, discontinued lines throwing 404s, category pages nobody ever wrote copy for. We fix the architecture first, then work through the catalogue in the order your sales data says matters.

SEO built for how stores actually work

Four structural things decide how a store performs in search. Whether Google can crawl the catalogue without drowning in filter combinations. Whether category pages carry any content at all. Whether product pages have the schema that earns a price and a star rating in the result. And what happens to a URL when the product behind it stops existing.

We start there, because good content sitting on a broken architecture still does not rank.

Then the catalogue gets worked through commercially, in the order your store analytics suggest rather than alphabetically. Categories and products with margin and demand go first: buying questions answered in the category copy, product titles and descriptions tidied to a template your team can follow, internal links pointed at the pages that actually take money. Links are earned with guides, comparisons and data, the sort of page a supplier or a magazine will cite.

Platform quirks we plan around

Shopify locks you into /collections/ and /products/ paths and will happily serve the same product from several URLs. WooCommerce generates attribute archives that nobody asked for. Magento's layered navigation can produce more URLs than you have SKUs. Headless builds hide half the problem behind JavaScript. Each of those has a known fix, and we apply the one that suits your platform instead of a generic checklist. If the store itself needs rebuilding, that is ecommerce website design.

What is included

What ecommerce SEO includes

Technical & crawl audit

Faceted navigation, canonicals, pagination, duplicate URLs and Core Web Vitals, with each finding ranked by the revenue sitting behind it.

Category page SEO

Copy written for people mid-decision, internal links and structured data on the pages that hold most of a store's rankings.

Product page optimisation

Titles and descriptions to a repeatable pattern, image alt text, review markup and Product schema that survives Google's validator.

Keyword & merchandising research

What people type when they are ready to buy, mapped onto categories and filters rather than onto blog posts.

Content that earns links

Buying guides, comparisons and size or spec data that suppliers and publishers link to without being asked twice.

Out-of-stock & lifecycle rules

Written rules for what a URL does when a product goes temporarily out of stock, gets replaced, or is discontinued for good.

Questions

Ecommerce SEO, answered

Why is ecommerce SEO different from normal SEO?

Scale and duplication. A store generates thousands of URLs from filters and variants, product pages are thin by their nature, and the inventory changes every day. The usual tactics still apply, but on a store the architecture work has to come first or the content work is wasted.

How long until we see results?

Index coverage responds to technical fixes within a few weeks, and traffic usually follows in two to three months. Category and content work compounds over six to twelve. Stores with an inherited mess of indexed filter URLs often see the fastest early gains, because the problem is subtraction rather than addition.

How much does ecommerce SEO cost?

From $900 a month for stores under 1,000 SKUs. Larger catalogues are quoted once we have run the crawl, because the price depends on how many templates and how many indexation problems there are, not on the SKU count alone.

Should we optimise every product page by hand?

No, and any agency billing you to do that is selling hours. Templates handle the long tail properly. Hand-written work goes to the categories and the twenty or thirty products carrying the margin, chosen from your own sales data.

How do you handle duplicate content from filters?

Canonicals for variants, an explicit list of which facet combinations may be indexed, unique category copy so the pages differ in substance, and robots rules for the rest. Most stores we take on lose a third or more of their indexed URLs, and rank better afterwards.

What happens to products that go out of stock?

Temporary: keep the page live, show the restock date and the nearest alternatives. Discontinued: redirect to the successor product or the parent category, never to the home page. We write those rules into the platform so it happens without anyone remembering to do it.
