Python covers an unusually wide spread of jobs, and pretending one engineer does all of them well is how these projects go wrong. A Django developer who has run migrations against a ten-year-old schema is not the same person who tunes a Spark job. Part of our job is telling you which one your brief actually describes.

Python work here falls into two areas. Application development: Django and DRF for systems with real domain rules and an admin people use every day, FastAPI for services that need async throughput and a typed contract. And data and automation: ETL with Airflow or Prefect, pandas and Polars for transformation, scheduled jobs reconciling data between systems nobody has been given budget to integrate properly.

Both groups share the same habits. Type hints. Ruff and mypy in the pipeline. pytest with fixtures rather than forty lines of copy-pasted setup. Dependency locks that actually pin.

When a dedicated Python developer is the right call. There is a Django application carrying years of business logic and nobody left who wrote any of it. You need an internal tool that talks to three systems on a schedule. You want an API in front of a model or a database that a partner can consume. Or a spreadsheet process has quietly become critical and now needs to be software before somebody deletes a row.

When it is not. If the goal is a retrieval chatbot or an agent, hire an AI engineer instead, because the Python is the easy part of that job. If the work is mainly configuring workflows in n8n or Make, review the automation engineer role. Choose the skills that fit the work and compare the published starting rates before agreeing the scope and final fee.

Hourly or monthly support. Python developer hiring starts at USD 22/hour with a 40-hour minimum, or USD 2,900/month for 160 reserved hours. We agree the required experience, responsibilities, collaboration hours, final fee and start date after reviewing the work.

Scope

What they do

Django applications

Domain-heavy systems in Django and DRF: models that match the business, an admin your staff genuinely use, and migrations that run without drama.

FastAPI services

Async APIs with Pydantic validation, OpenAPI documentation generated from the code itself, and typed clients for whoever consumes them.

Data pipelines

Airflow or Prefect DAGs, pandas and Polars transformations, idempotent loads into PostgreSQL, BigQuery or Snowflake.

Integration and automation

Scheduled jobs reconciling CRM, ERP and accounting systems, with an alert when a run fails rather than three weeks of silence.

Scraping and ingestion

Resilient collectors with rate limiting, proxy handling and schema validation, built to respect robots rules and the site's own terms.

Testing and packaging

pytest suites against a real database, Ruff and mypy gates, Docker images, and dependency locks that reproduce on somebody else's laptop.

How it works

How to hire

01

Say which kind of Python this isDay 0

Domain application, service API, or data pipeline. Those are three different engineers and naming yours saves both of us a wasted shortlist.

02

Relevant profiles48 h

CVs showing the specific Python they have actually done, not a list of libraries. Hourly rate and earliest start date confirmed in the same message.

03

Interview and set a real problem2–4 days

Give them a slow query or an awkward migration from your own system. Agree assessment scope and any work before starting.

04

Define the first deliverableDays 1–15

Agree a first deliverable for the selected hourly or monthly engagement: a real ticket, a written technical decision and a review of the work completed. Scope, fees and exit arrangements follow the agreed engagement terms.

05

Keep going, or pauseOngoing

Agree NDA and IP terms before the first commit, keep credentials in your own cloud account and review hours and progress regularly. Any scaling, cancellation or handover follows the terms in your proposal.

Questions

FAQ

Can we hire a Python developer hourly or monthly?

Yes. Python developer hiring starts at USD 22/hour with a 40-hour minimum, or USD 2,900/month for 160 reserved hours. The proposal confirms the required skills, responsibilities, collaboration hours and final fee. Availability and the start date are confirmed after discussion.

Django or FastAPI for a new project?

Django when there is real domain complexity, an admin interface and a team that will grow. Batteries included saves months of work nobody wants to do twice. FastAPI when it is a service, throughput matters and the front end is separate. The engineer makes the call in week one and writes down the reasoning.

Can they take over a Python 2 or legacy Django codebase?

Yes, and we have done several. Tests around the parts that earn money first, then upgrade in deployable steps. Expect months rather than weeks, and a written plan before a single line changes. Anyone quoting you three weeks for this has not looked at the code.

Do your Python developers do machine learning?

Some do. But if the core of the project is retrieval-augmented generation, agents or model evaluation, hire the AI and LLM engineer instead. You get somebody whose day job that is, at a rate that reflects it, and a faster answer to whether it will work at all.

How do you handle data privacy on pipeline work?

NDA before access, least-privilege credentials in your own cloud account, no client data copied to our machines, and PII masked in every non-production environment. Under GDPR or India's DPDP rules we document the data flows as part of the work rather than as an afterthought.
